Position sensor

Camshaft and crankshaft position sensors, and magnetic pickups, for electronically governed engines. Send the number off the old sensor along with the engine model.

What to send us

The number stamped on the old part is the quickest route. If it has worn off, the engine or genset model and serial number usually gets us there. Photos help more than descriptions.

We cross-check whatever you send against the OEM catalogue and confirm the match with you before anything ships.

About this range

This covers the pickups and position devices around the engine's speed and fuelling. A magnetic pickup reads the flywheel ring gear teeth and gives the controller or governor its speed signal. A position sensor on a fuel pump actuator tells the governor where the fuel rack actually is, so the loop can close.

Magnetic pickups fail quietly. The gap between the tip and the ring gear teeth is set by threading the pickup down onto a tooth and backing it off a defined amount, and a pickup that has vibrated loose, or one set too far out, gives an intermittent signal. That usually shows as a set that cranks and does not fire, or one that shuts down on overspeed or underspeed for no clear reason.

Send the number off the body, and the thread and length. Length matters more than it looks, because the tip has to sit at the right distance from the ring gear.
